Hi there, I'm new and I found you guys on a quest for information.

wednesday night I ventured to walmart, now I swear I only wanted cat litter but upon approaching the fish tanks this beautiful little guy ran across the bottom of his tank to me, paced around infront of me, and tried to climb out of the tank. So I had to bring him home.

his name is Syd, and he's a Dragon Goby.

I've been doing some research and I know walmart is not a place to buy fish but under the circumstances I couldn't leave him. He was in a fresh water tank, which is what I currently have, that houses two goldfish and an upside down catfish (none of these will fit in his mouth)

all my research says he 1) needs sand and 2) needs to have brackish water. it said on one site to do a 1% salt mixture which is so many tea or table spoons per 10 gallons.

I've also found a complete set up, heater filters tank and stand thats 45 gallons vs my 10 and can include live sand..can I even use live sand with brackish water?

my main concern is my other fish, could they handle brackish water or do i need to get him a separate tank (which isn't a problem)?

does anyone know anything else about how to keep these guys so that Syd can have a long happy life? I got him some freeze dried shrimpies and plan on getting him some live food he can eat on my next cricket/superworm venture to the pet store so any information here would be greatly appreciated, I wouldn't expect to purchase a fish needing salt from a freshwater tank but I mean, it was walmart after all..

so please, anyone have any info for me?

Hello,
Hope the dragon goby is doing well.
Your orther fish cannot survive long in brackish water so don't do it.
You will need the goldfish in a sperate tank Sad

Live sand from the ocean will also not work in a brackish water tank.

Make sure you keep the water very clean, If you notice excessive slime it is time to change some water
